My name is Matt Westmore. My family owns the largest fashion accessories business in South Africa. From the age of seven I was on buying trips to Asia, watching how jewelry gets designed, made, priced and labeled long before it reaches a shelf in a store. I have stood on the production lines. I have seen the gap between what an earring looks like and what actually goes into it.
I know which components get specified carefully and which ones get value-engineered. The butterfly back is almost always the latter.
I grew up inside this industry. What I saw is why I built this differently.
I also understand personally what it means when the body can't tolerate what it's exposed to. Three years ago I woke up with the complete loss of use of my right hand. After months of misdiagnosis I was told I had developed MMN, Multifocal Motor Neuropathy, a lifelong autoimmune neurological condition. My daughter was one year old.
I have a daughter who will soon want to wear earrings. I wasn't willing to put on her what I had seen coming off those production lines. So I started asking what would be considered safe enough to sit on a child's skin every day, and built purepixxi from the answer.
The problem is not finding earrings. The challenge is finding one brand that is honest about what they're actually made of. That is the one thing purepixxi was built to do. To be honest.
